FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is puppy vaccination carried out?

Starting from day 51 after birth, puppies receive three rounds of combination vaccinations spaced 21 to 28 days apart. The third round also includes a rabies vaccination. During the entire vaccination period and for 14 days after the final round, the puppy must remain in quarantine: it cannot go outside, must not come into contact with outdoor footwear, and hands must be washed thoroughly after returning from walks. Contact with unvaccinated or unknown animals should be avoided. Annual booster vaccinations are required to maintain the puppy's immunity. If you are planning to travel abroad, the vaccination schedule must meet the requirements of your destination country — for full details see the article Traveling Abroad with a Maltipoo: Documents, EU Regulations and What to Check in Advance.

What is microchipping and why is it necessary?

Microchipping is a modern method of electronic identification for dogs. A microchip no larger than a grain of rice is implanted under the skin of the animal. It contains a unique 15-digit code that can be read by a special scanner. Microchipping serves several important purposes: it is required for legal transportation of a pet across borders, it prevents the risk of an animal being switched or stolen, and it makes it much easier to reunite a lost pet with its owner. All of our puppies receive a microchip before being handed over to their new family.

How and when should deworming be carried out?

Parasite prevention is extremely important for a puppy's health. Even if a puppy appears healthy and shows no signs of infection, our veterinarians strongly recommend deworming once every 2 to 3 months. Deworming is also mandatory before vaccinations and before any international travel. The appropriate medication is selected based on the puppy's age and weight — please do not administer any treatment without veterinary advice.

How do I protect my maltipoo from ticks and fleas?

Protection against ticks and fleas should be continuous, especially during spring and summer when parasites are most active. After every walk, particularly in nature, check the puppy's body carefully for ticks. A tick bite can lead to serious consequences, and if not treated promptly, to irreversible harm. Fleas can cause dermatitis, anaemia or worm infestation. They can even be picked up in a building stairwell, so we recommend using specialist preventive products on a regular basis. Self-treatment can be dangerous — always consult a veterinarian before applying any product.

Do maltipoos cause allergies?

Maltipoos are among the most hypoallergenic dog breeds in the world. They shed very little, have no characteristic "dog smell" and their coat is closer in structure to human hair than to typical dog fur. Because of this, most people with mild or moderate sensitivities find maltipoos comfortable to be around. That said, no dog is completely allergen-free — reactions can be triggered not only by fur but also by saliva and dander. Individual sensitivity varies, so before making a purchase we recommend visiting us in person and spending 30 to 60 minutes with a puppy to observe your own reaction.

What sizes do maltipoos come in?

Maltipoos come in several sizes: super-micro (1.4 to 1.6 kg), micro (up to 2 kg), super mini (2 to 2.5 kg), mini (2.5 to 4 kg) and standard (4 to 6 kg). Size is determined by the genetics of the parents, not by the F1 or F2 generation — this is a very common misconception. We forecast the adult weight of every puppy and include it clearly in each listing. For more on how to choose the right size for your lifestyle, see the article Which Maltipoo Size to Choose: Super Micro, Micro, Super Mini, Mini or Standard?

What do F1 and F2 mean in maltipoos, and what is the difference?

F1 and F2 refer to the generation of a puppy, not its size. A maltipoo F1 is produced by crossing a Maltese with a toy poodle and typically has the classic "doll-like" appearance and pastel colouring. A maltipoo F2 is produced by crossing a maltipoo with a toy poodle, which means it carries more poodle genetics and often has richer, more vibrant colours such as red or red-brown. There is no objectively better generation — the choice depends entirely on your personal preference for appearance. For a full breakdown of the differences between generations, see the article Maltipoo F1 and F2: What Do These Designations Mean?

How should I feed a maltipoo puppy?

Up to 4 months of age, we recommend feeding the puppy 4 times a day in small portions. After 4 months, move to 3 meals a day, and after one year to 2 meals a day. Use the manufacturer's recommended portion size for small breeds and monitor body condition: ribs should be easy to feel under the fingers without being visibly prominent. Feeding from the table is strongly discouraged — it is a fast route to allergies and persistent begging. Fresh, still water should be available at all times. For more detail on feeding schedules and diet, see the article Maltipoo Care Details: A Practical Guide for New Owners.

How do I care for a maltipoo's coat?

A maltipoo's coat needs brushing every day or every other day using a brush that is gentle on the skin. We recommend bathing the puppy as needed but no more than once a week. Professional grooming is permitted from the first day after quarantine ends and should ideally be done once every 6 weeks. Without regular brushing, the coat tangles quickly and forms mats that will need to be cut out. For a detailed grooming schedule and product recommendations, see the article Maltipoo Care Details: A Practical Guide for New Owners.

Are the puppies trained to use a toilet pad?

Yes, all of our puppies learn to use a toilet pad from an early age. For your convenience, we also recommend regular walks outdoors so the dog gradually becomes comfortable going to the toilet outside as well. The transition happens gradually — without stress for the puppy or inconvenience for you.

How do I care for a maltipoo's eyes, teeth and ears?

Eyes should be wiped as needed using specialist products designed for the fur around the eye area. We recommend cleaning ears once every 2 weeks with an antifungal anti-inflammatory solution such as Auricap. Teeth cleaning should begin at 4 months of age using a specialist gel or brush, either at home or at a grooming salon. Regular dental hygiene is important: like all small breeds, maltipoos are prone to tartar build-up and prevention is far easier than treatment.

How does a maltipoo behave with children?

Maltipoos are very playful and love children. At the same time, we recommend teaching children a few simple rules: do not wake the puppy while it is sleeping, do not disturb it during meals and always give it time and space for itself. For the puppy's nervous system and its long-term relationship with children, it is very important that interactions are mutual and supervised. For more on safe and healthy interaction, see the article Maltipoo Puppy Socialization: A Complete Guide from the First Weeks

Is a maltipoo suitable for apartment living?

Maltipoos are one of the best choices for apartment life. They are compact, shed very little, have no smell and quickly learn to use a toilet pad. They do not need long walks — two or three short outings a day is enough. They are perfectly comfortable even in a small studio flat, as long as they have their own space and regular contact with their owner. For more on this topic, see the article 5 Reasons Why Maltipoos are Ideal Dogs for Apartments.

Can I travel abroad with a maltipoo?

Yes, maltipoos are excellent travel companions thanks to their compact size and calm temperament. For international travel you will need a complete document package: a microchip, a veterinary passport with up-to-date vaccinations, an international health certificate and, for some countries, additional parasite treatments. For EU entry, a minimum of 21 days must pass between the rabies vaccination and crossing the border. For a full step-by-step guide, see the article Traveling Abroad with a Maltipoo: Documents, EU Regulations and What to Check in Advance.

How do I prepare my home for a new puppy?

Before the puppy arrives, it is worth preparing the space in advance: remove small objects from the floor, hide cables, block access to cleaning products, set up a sleeping area and designate a spot for the toilet pad. For the first few days, it is best to limit the puppy to one room where it will feel safe and secure. For a detailed preparation checklist, see the article Preparing Your Home for a Maltipoo Puppy: Tips and Recommendations.

How long do maltipoos live?

Maltipoos are among the longer-lived dog breeds. Their average lifespan is 12 to 15 years, and with excellent care some individuals reach 16 to 17 years. Small breeds generally live longer than large ones. The factors that most influence the length and quality of life are a proper diet, regular veterinary check-ups, physical activity and a stable emotional environment.
